During these expeditions a new method was used for measuring the thickness of the ice cap of Antarctica using radar. Furthermore, deposits of coal and iron ore were found. First Soviet station in West Antarctica - Bellingshausen station - was opened on February 1968 on King George Island of the South Shetland Islands. Photos depicted polar explorer's daily life at Molodyozhnaya and Novolazarevskaya stations: researching and constructing, wildlife nature (glaciers, fracturing of fast ice, Adelie and Chinstrap penguins).
