Boston: Ploughshares Books, 1990. Paperback. 181p., softbound, the first edition in 8.5x5.5 inch pictorial wraps. Very nice copy, entirely sound, clean and unmarked. Buyer should note an oddity: back cover bears a neat keyboard-set label affixed at the publisher's, reading "Not Final Cover / Printer Error" followed by Ploughshares' name, the price ($9.95) and the ISBN (same as printed on copyright page). Ergo, depending on the "final" graphic (or other element) this is the fustest first.

New York: the University, 1938. 284p., glossy paperstock throughout much in the vein of lesser school yearbooks but ratcheted up to a Big Business production. Hardbound in massive 12.5x9 inch black cloth boards with pressed decoration and titling in raised bronze, doublespread photographic endsheets, running borders in purple ("violet") ink. Cover is badly frayed at top and tail of backstrip, but the book overall is is pretty good shape: sound hinges, no markings, no autographs or ownership. Laid in is an "In Memoriam" sheet with photo. Looking over lists of boardmen we see David Sarnoff (1931), Cass Canfield (33), a Roosevelt, and many names we should know but don't. There is no "Jokes" section, yet joking abounds. Yes, there is a Sports section, but one overshadowed by business emphasis and particular making-money groupings. Twenty years of German history in photos, from the first World War to revolutionary ferment, inflation, and the rise of the recently elected Nazi government.

Girard, Kansas: Haldeman-Julius Company, various dates. Paperback. Forty-two different staplebound booklets, all 3.5x5 inches. Generally in very good condition, with some toning. Dated examples range from the 1920s to the 1930s; many are later printings with the dates removed. Despite the series having the title "Little Blue Books," they come in a variety of colors. Markun was one of the more peculiar contributors to the Little Blue Book series. The son of Jewish immigrants, he graduated from Harvard only to become a recluse, quietly submitting manuscript after manuscript to Haldeman-Julius until his suicide in 1932 at the age of 31. Northfield MA: National Headquarters, American Youth Hostels Inc, 1938. Pamphlet. 65p., sketch illustrations with an especially large group of b&w photos of AYH activity by Fritz Goro. Small journal in pamphlet format, 7x5 inches, an excellent two-color woodcut decorates the cover; bound in, printed on acidic tinted stock, is a long (10-inch) informational strip passed thru the spinefold so protruding 5 inches on either side. This strip of unstable construction paper has offset onto adjoining leaves, and is currently split in half, along the spinefold, and now detached. A good copy: generally sound, and entirely free of soil or any markings.

Washington, DC: American Commonwealth Federation, 1936. Pamphlet. 1 sheet (2 pages). 8.5 x 5.5 in. Horizontal fold, otherwise Very Good. Flier announcing a plan that provided every family guaranteed income. Promotes the pamphlet "American Commonwealth Plan" published in 1936. The American Commonwealth Plan was floated around the same time as the Townsend Plan and Social Security.

Bishop, a friend of Edmund Wilson and F. Scott Fitzgerald (he was the inspiration for Thomas Parke D'Invilliers in "This Side of Paradise") based this novel on the true story of the rape of a Charles Town, West Virginia socialite.
