Text in Spanish. Pumps, mostly electrical.

Washington DC: Government Printing Office, 1928. 31p., smallpoint type, 9.5x6 inch plain printed self-wraps. Paste-fastened, also has been punch-holed for a binder, slight edgewear and toning, a very good copy. Johnson directs his sarcasm at senator Smoot of Utah. 106477-4547.

Chernobyl, Ukraine: Chernobyl NPP, 2011. Pamphlet. 11.5x16.5 inches, single sheet of coated stock folded into 8-page brochure, color photos, remains of horizontal fold across vertical leafs, some edgewear, else good condition. Tourist brochure issued by the Chernobyl Nuclear Power Plant several years past the 1986 disaster, (it refers to the "former Soviet Union" and the disaster in the past tense). Includes glowing description of Slavutich, a town of 27,000, 50 kilometers east of Chernobyl NPP, well outside of the 30 km "zone of alienation" surrounding the disaster area, which goes unmentioned. Proudly notes that the plant is "an open site for the public" and that more than 3000 visitors annually visit the station and Slavutich.

Vancouver: the signatories, 1998. Pamphlet. 27p., softbound pamphlet in 8.5x5.5 inch stapled wraps decorated with a die-cut window over the union logo underneath. Above-average production qualities. Cover bears two or three small droplet stains, else clean, a sound very good copy.

Poster advertisement for a novelty act, the father and daughter Patterson duo's dazzling light show. Date of publication inferred from testimonials (the Pattersons performed in Chicago in 1899).

San Francisco: promotional office, 1940. Postcard. Very good exemplars enclosed in a small plastic presentation folder provided with twenty clear pockets of 6x4 inches, each to contain two back-to-back cards, of which three contain one card only and another none at all, the rest filled to capacity. There are 13 b&w cards, the rest (22) are in color or colorized. Good ones! especially the fancy color items. Spot-checking suggests that this was an active collection, not a group purchased en masse, as the terminal card is marked discreetly "$1.00" in pencil. Most unused, though a couple have greetings/portage/postmarks to verso.

[24]p., alkaline coated paperstock throughout with numerous vignette engineering drawings and line-drawn specs, softbound booklet in 6x3.2 inch stapled color wraps (back cover has a nice orange water-tower); bound with a single staple that is quite rusted with a touch of migration, otherwise clean and sound. Pumps, mostly electrical but also gasoline.

Paris: Ch.Chardin, 1930. Pamphlet. 8p., numerous b&w photos/artists' renderings of electrical devices (stored neatly or in use), a few patients photographed or sketched, semi-glazed alkaline paperstock. No merely manual techniques are shown (compiler recommends a book for that), instead, everything shown is electrically enhanced: "air chaud et froid, vibro-masseurs w/accessories, manu-vibrateur, massage electrique de haute frequence, maigro-masseur, massage faradique ou d'induction (par piles), table de massage".. there is text besides the lengthy captionings. Condition: pretty good, pace a bit of edgewear, dust-soil and corner-tip creasing externally, and crimpings throughout the ads. Sound enough, and unmarked except for an old dealership code in pencil. Let's describe it as "good", meaning "good only" Our dating is based on the lot it turned up in, and the fact that the cover design looks "art deco" - though the various machines look prehistoric. Milano: Fratelli Treves, Editori, 1881. Hardcover. 320p., a rebound folio in 15x11 inch cloth boards with both covers and the complete spine panel laid down on brownish-purple fabric (an opportunity to use the word "puce"), utilitarian but skilled, compatible endsheets, item rather worn at this point in time but still has strong hinges. Original covers were probably from a softbound and have transferred well, while the spine panel is abraded and has received a coat of glaze. Enough about the outside, it is the inside that impresses; following a plat map of the site in monochrome terra-cotta, every two leaves of text alternate with splendid large steel engravings, doublespreads are common. The majority of images are cut crystal-clear, like a modern Piero della Francesca, of enormous machines and interiors and people, and not infrequently are instead moody and dusky on purpose like a Turner.
