Milano / Parigi: Editore Eoardo Sonzogno, 1870. 17x12 inches, a giant hardbound in shaken condition, plates look to be complete with only two margins damaged, description below. 162p., indice. Illustrated with numerous b&w lithographs: ten doublespread battle scemes, three doublespread maps (one line map, two view-maps), many single-page views (not all plates show battle), and way way too many portraits. A folio in very worn marbled boards, narrow vellum spine (true vellum; may be an old restoration to head, we're unsure), endsheets are original and though somewhat dirty are intact, gutters look weak but no threads showing. No leaves are at risk of detachment. We have paged through the book and the only repulsive flaw is that a small corner of mildew has settled in the terminal dozen or so leaves, triangular areas about 2x3 inches. Harmondsworth: Penguin Books, 1950. Pamphlet. 32p., self-wraps, profusely illustrated with doublespreads that alternate color with b&w. Unusually good sketches and color art, the critters shown being vigorous (hopping, touching, preying) . Males often are drawn with visible if not explicit genitalia. The text is quite informative about familiar animals as well as about the ones non- Aussies never hear about. A slightly shabby copy with edgewear, rusty staples, and faint toning to paperstock, but the artwork remains bright. No ownerships or any other sort of marking. Puffin picture books no. 45.

Milltown, NJ: Self-published by the author, 1995. Pamphlet. [8p.], 4.25x5.5 inches; b&w illus. + one figure colored in by hand, staplebound zine in very good condition.

New York: AMS Press Inc, 1972. Hardcover. v, 264p., preface, 8 full page illustrations plus profuse illustrations in text (silhouettes all, outline portraits to fullpagers, humorous silhouettes of cats vignette-size around margins). Nice copy of this reprint (originally 1902), hardbound in 7x5 inch black cloth boards spine-lettered gilt. No jacket, but this republication may have been issued without one. An immaculate copy, we see no flaw. An African American minister, Corrothers was deeply influenced by Dunbar's work with black dialect, and turned toward short stories and poems as a vehicle of expressing his profound involvement with African Americans of northern rural and urban backgrounds (Chicago especially, for the great variety of African American cultures to be found there).
