A nice copy, no ownership or other marks; unclipped dj is bright but has a small adhesion scar to front panel affecting author's name, and back panel has a light dampstain with offset color. A presentably good copy. "Such bltoches on a nation as race riots, lynchings, government corruption and graft, scandal in high places and the shocking growth of teen-age gangs provided the ingredients of certain explosion," (dustjacket).

Hardcover. xvi, 563p. plus appended material and indices; wood- or steel-engraved vignette illustrations throughout (well-reproduced), casebound in 9.5x6.5 inch textured cloth boards lettered gilt and paneled in blind. A handled copy with edgewear and slight fray, a penciled ownership, hinges remain good, spine titling legible, textblock leaves mildly toned but cleanly and unmarked, a good copy.

Paperback. 296p., small tear in front cover affecting the word 'upon' and mirrored in title page, same effect, otherwise very good in lightly-worn plain tan covers with title on front cover. The argument for the defense of Calhoun, president of the United Railroad company which ran the trolley system in SF after the earthquake and was accused of paying bribes to Boss Ruef. Only 3 copies located in OCLC as of 3/2017.

Philadelphia: The Leisenring Steam Printing House, 1871. Pamphlet. 38p., wraps chipped on the edges, rear wrap detached but present, small stain in bottom margin of the text block, minor internal handling wear, coal company stamp on front wrap. On his disputes with the Workingmen's Benevolent Association (the anthracite coalminers' union), wage issues and the like. It was Gowen's breaking the union in 1874 that lead to the Molly Maguire scare.

Nice exemplar, the glazed graphic perfect, the surround quarter-inch margin faintly edgeworn. Comes with a stiff backing-card and a blank manila mailing envelope. Find several pencilled notes on reverse of card, reading (variously) "Vancouver 1941. Ms. McGiverney (SF) under forward arch. 179 - July 25 '41

Slight external signs of handling, cover bears a small numeral in red pencil, nice clean copy.

Unpaginated, over thirty pages, profusely illustrated with b&w photos and detailed line diagrams, softbound in oblong 10.5x14 inch plainish printed wraps; folded in half to 10.5x7 inch wraps which are entirely blank (except for an offset rust-pattern left by an ancient paperclip). Texts confined to lengthy captions. Sent folded; expect mild vertical creasing to each and every leaf. We see no material damage; staple-fastenings have indeed been touched with rust, these without migration. Good copy.

Urbana, IL: [University of Illinois-?], 1943. Pamphlet. 13p., staplebound booklet, inscribed by the author in Chinese on the cover; rear cover partly sun-faded. The Toisanese native, who had attended MIT and Columbia before pursuing graduate research at the University of Illinois, worked at the Union Switch and Signal Company to research this thesis.
