Description:
Berkeley: Bullshit & Society, 1969. Pamphlet. 58p., 8.5x11 inches, mimeographed journal, stapled in upper left corner, some rust at the staple, otherwise very good condition. First and (apparently) only issue of a journal produced by the Radical Caucus of the UC Berkeley History Dept. It reprints Jerry Farber's "The Student as Nigger," "They Teach Us Alienation" by James O'Connor, Viennese painter Friedereich Hundertwasser's "Architecture Boycott Manifesto," "Fat-Cat Sociology" by Martin Nicolaus, and Cuban novelist Edmundo Desnoes' "The Secret Weapons." More significantly the issue also features a lengthy debate between PL and non-PL factions of SDS at UC Berkeley, along with a response by David Negus, and an account by past president of SDS Carl Oglesby of liberal overtures by Businessmen's International to SDS (via Oglesby), along with a reply by Andrew Levine of Columbia SDS. This would appear to have been published in early 1969, not the following winter.
