New York: Simon & Schuster, 1950. First Edition . Hardcover. Near Fine/Very Good. 8vo - over 7¾"- 9¾" tall. Simont, Marc. A scarce first printing of this classic Thurber children's story. Title page lists illustrator as "Mark Simont", corrected to "Marc" in later printings. NF with a little browning to pages and to edges of boards, binding quite sound. Jacket has a few small chips and tears, at the head of the spine, plus one noticeable chip at the bottom front. Not price clipped, wtih original 2.95 price present at bottom of front flap. Rear jacket flap is clipped for some reason. In protective mylar, photos on request.

World, 1960. First Edition . Hard. Near Fine/Fine. Signed by author. First edition, with postcard from noted Chicago booksellers Kroch's and Brentano's indicating "autographed by the author especially for members of the First Edition Circle". Front free endpaper discolored where newspaper review (included) of this book was laid in. Otherwise the book is pristine, with a fine, bright jacket. Tiny fold to bottom of front flap. In protective plastic.

Houghton Mifflin, 1958. Hardcover. Fine/Near Fine. Fortnum, Peggy. Stated "Tenth Printing C" of the original US edition, so probably circa 1962. A tight, lovely copy with no markings, illustrated throughout with Fortnum's line drawings. Bright yellow jacket is price-clipped and has a few bumps and one closed tear but is in displayable condition. A really nice copy.

Garden City, NJ: Doubleday, 1966. Cloth. Near Fine/Very Good. Stated first US edition in very nice dust jacket. NOT ex-lib, NOT price-clipped. One tear to front surface of dust jacket, like a sticker was removed. Per the text on the flap, this was the first children's book written and illustrated by Ernest Shepard (of Winnie the Pooh fame). A very special title.

Random House, 1956. First Edition . Cloth. Very Good+/Very Good. A lovely stated first printing of the twefth Black Stallion novel. Lists to Black Stallion Revolts. Book is VG+. with a bit of a lean to binding. Red boards, charming vintage bookplate affixed to FFEP.. Binding is tight, corners unbumped. Unclipped jacket (200/200) VG, with only a couple ot small closed tears (largest is 1/2 in. tear to bottom front) and some chipping at spine ends. Colors are nice and bright. In lovely, displayable condition.

Random House, 1952. Cloth. Very Good+/Very Good +. A lovely stated fouth printing of the eighth Black Stallion novel. Lists to Island Stallion's Fury. Book is quite good. Beige boards, charming vintage bookplate affixed to FFEP, binding is tight, corners unbumped. First few pages have very slight crease to lower portion of page, a few early pages have minor dings at the page edge. Unclipped jacket (200/200) has some minor chipping along top edge and both spine ends, biggest is a 1/4" closed tear. Colors are bright, although there is some wear and a crease in the center (as if the jacket had once been removed and folded top to bottom). All in all, though in quite nice condition.

Random House, 1953. Cloth. Very Good+/Fair. A lovely fifth printing of the ninth Black Stallion novel. Lists to Black Stallion's Filly. Book is VG+. Red boards, charming vintage bookplate affixed to FFEP.. Binding is tight, corners unbumped. Unclipped jacket (200/200) VG, with only a couple ot small closed tears and some chipping at spine ends. However, there is an extensive tear to the front flaps---at the bend, the flap is nearly severed from the jacket, hanging on by about an inch at top and bottom. Colors are nice and bright, would be totally acceptable in Brodart (happy to include on request).

Random House, 1954. Cloth. Very Good+/Near Fine. Harold Eldridge. A lovely stated first printing of the tenth Black Stallion novel. Lists to Black Stallion Revolts. Book is VG+ to NF. Blue boards, charming vintage bookplate affixed to FFEP, additional small inscription dates to '55. Binding is tight, corners unbumped. Front endpaper has stain to bottom edge, no pages of text affected. Unclipped jacket (200/200) about NF, with only a couple ot tiny closed tears and a little creasing at head of spine. Jacket does have a little spotting/foxing, but colors are nice and bright. In lovely, displayable condition.

Random House, 1957. Cloth. Near Fine/Very Good. Mal Singer. First edition, stated first printing of this later Black Stallion title. Tight binding, light blue boards show some white spots but doesn't seem a condition issue, may have been that way all along. Short inscription on FFEP dates to 1957 (year of publication). Unclipped jacket (200/200) in very good condition, with one major chip (1/2") missing from bottom edge of spine. Some other minor wear to top edge, but overall in lovely, displayable condition.

New York: Random House, 1971. Hardcover. Near Fine/Good. 8vo - over 7¾"- 9¾" tall. Ward, Keith. Later printing of the Black Stallion novel that started it all. Lists internally to Black Stallion & the Girl. Book is quite good--tight binding, no markings. Price-clipped jacket has some small tears and creasing, and also a much larger 2-3 inch tear at the bottom of the spine.

Chicago: A. Flanagan Company, 1906. Hardcover. Fair/No Jacket. This older title is not in great shape, but is somewhat uncommon. Green cloth boards with black portrait of title dog. Boards have some wear, primarily to corners. Internally, many pages have some soil or staining.. Binding cracked, but book intact save for one loose page (14/15). No previous owners marks or library markings.

Doubleday, 1954. Hardcover. Fine/Good. Book itself is in wonderful condition. A name is written very neatly on front board, almost unnoticeable. No markings, torn or bent pages, only the slightest hint of browning to the edges of the pages. Unsure of printing: the year "1954" appears on the title page, and the copyright page reads "Copyright, 1953, 1954". Dust jacket has some problems -- price-clipped, was torn in a diagonal across the front panel and repaired on the back side with a christmas-patterend scotch tape, I would guess sometime in the late 1950's, based on the tape itself. Other, more recent tears, one 1 1/2" closed tear at bottom fromt of spine, a few other 1/2" closed tears along top and bottom edges. Edgewear, soil and corner bumps, as to be expected on a 60-year-old book. Overall, extremely presentable, photos can be provided upon request.

Scribner's, 1902. Hardcover. Fine. Vawter, J.W.. A truly glorious copy in stunning condition. Dark brown boards with gold leaf on stamped author, title and illustration. Gift inscription in light green pencil from Christmas 1902; published October 1902.Glossy illustrations throughout as well as line drawings decorating text. Just a beautiful book from the "Children's Poet" from Indiana.

Scholastic, 1968. Soft cover. Very Good. A very nice vintage Scholstic paperback based on the Disney movie of the same name. Line drawings throughout and photographic cover. Pages are browning but book is nice and tight, cover in great shape. Previous owner's name written neatly inside front cover.

New York, NY: Frederick Stokes & Co, 1933. Hardcover. Very Good. A very nice copy of this title, save for the pen markings to the front and back cover boards. Yellow boards with pastedown on front, teal and black endpapers, color plates done by the author throughout. No jacket. Some bumps to corners but overall in very nice condition for a book of this age. Fifth Impression.

New York, NY: Lippincott, 1955. Hardcover. Very Good. A later printing, copyright 1955 by Josephine Lofting. Lovely orange boards with full color image on front, plain white endpapers. Black & white images by the author throughout. A nice tight copy, some bumps to corners and a bit of fading to the spine. Uncommon volume of this beloved series.

New York: Simon & Schuster, 1959. First Edition . Hardcover. Good. 4to - over 9¾" - 12" tall. Knight, Hilary. First printing of this title. Boards have a couple of small water spots, but are otherwise quite clean. However, torn at foot of spine about 2 inches up the binding, including lost to lowest 1/2 inch of spine. Internally wonderfull--perhaps slight toning to pages, but illustrations clean and bright throughout, no markings.

New York: Grosset & Dunlap, 1918. Hardcover. Very Good/Good. 12mo - over 6¾" - 7¾" tall. A very nice copy of the Grosset & Dunlap edition of this title. The book itself is quite nice, very minimal wear to blue tweed boards, previous owner's name on front endpaper, no other notable flaws. Jacket price clipped, with tears and small chips to spine ends, small tears at top front and lower rear corners.
