John Claudius Loudon (1783-1843), designer of the first public park and inventor of the means to construct curvilinear glasshouses, was also the first eminent landscape architect to address the problems of the modern city - this book is the first comprehensive study of Loudon's social, political, environmental and artistic ideals.

Contains various essays on the gathering of botanical drugs, cultivation of golden seal and ginseng; frog, bee, and fur-bearing animals hunting. "Fur News" was publishing monthly to tell about trapping, hunting, skinning and stretching furs, gathering and marketing roots and herbs, taxidermy, etc. Adverts from druggists and chemists on the covers.
