Description:
NY: Duell, Sloan Pearce, 1949. Hardcover. Fine/Fair. 2nd printing. Cloth. 313pp. Index. Pencil fos/gift on ffep. Laid into this copy is a short, but wonderful T.L.S. (typed letter signed) by Croy on a small-sized printed letterhead, the Duke of Cornwall Hotel, Plymouth (England). It has his corrections in ink, but reads: "April 23rd - Friend: I'm going to pull down, just as Jesse would have done, on the person who said the book was unobtainable. I'm telling the publishers to write you. I've (sic) extremely thankful the book has done so well. I was afraid a book about an outlaw would not go, but it has. Yours till General MacArthur Loves Truman. H. C." Also laid in is a small news clipping of the death of 109 year old James Russell Davis, who testified that as a member of the James gang he could identify J. Frank Dalton as Jesse James. Croy grew up close by the James family. "It seems to me I have always known the James Story." He interviewed many interesting people for this book. Fine copy in dj… Read More

Description:
Columbia: E. W. Stephens, 1904. First Edition. Hardcover. Good-. Gilt-stamped cloth. 608pp. Illus. Abundant maps (folding + partial page county maps). Index. Presentation on front paste down from Roy D. Williams to Thos Evans. Additionally, the bottom one-half of the paste down has a description of the two family's relationship. It appears that Roy Williams ("lawyer of Boonville, MO) was the brother of the editor. A son or daughter of Evans appears to have written this description. Judge William Williams, father of the editor, married Jessie Evans. When you buy it you can figure it out. Also, laid in is a printed one-half sheet on Missouri Commission / Louisiana Purchase Exposition letterhead. It states that this was a complimentary copy from Editor Williams, courtesy of the World's Fair Commission. List of Commissioners is printed. A well worn (especially corners), but tight copy. Cracking to back hinge, but binding is tight. No dj, probably as issued. Rare & unusual association copy.
