Affixed to the verso of the rear free endpaper (facing the newspaper article) and with flaps folded is a dj for the same book, but showing the price of $4.00 on the flap. Both American & Canadian firsts sport the price of $4.50. However, the Holbrook review has $4.00 for the book! The top edge of this extra dj is trimmed back a bit (1/4"). Many brief histories of the communities that make up this rugged SW edge of the State of Illinois which, in the 1960s, your bookseller drove many times, particularly Alto Pass past Bald Knob. The author first entered these Ozarks from the central Illinois plains in 1899 and was enthralled with the beauty. He became the Principal of a school further south on the Ohio River. Fine. No dj. This is an approximately 2" x 2 3/4" color tinted mounted glass slide showing Mount Hood, Oregon from across a valley (not sure if part of Columbia River is in foreground). The mount is 3 1/4" x 4". Gifford, Portland, Ore., appears along the edge, which has a short white strip over part of the lettering. Very lovely image of the famous & picturesque mountain. Circa 1910?
