Boston: Houghton Mifflin, 1924. Hardcover. Very Good. Perhaps the most common complaint about school is: "Math is my worst subject," or "I was never any good at artithmetic." In the 1920s, Dr. W. J. Osburn, Director of Educational Measurements, Wisconsin Department of Public Instruction, analyzed the problem and determineded a large part of the problem was teachers who didn't know how to spot problems and correct them. He wrote this book to address the issue. First edition (no indication of copy's printing date.) About 5 1/4 x 7 1/2 inches, 182 pages including bibliography, appendix and index. Bound in greeen cloth-covered boards with gold lettering on spine. No dustjacket. Boards and text show slight spine lean, previous owner's name on fep, some slight soiling on text edges. It is filled with selections of prose and poetry by writers such as Hawthorne, Longfellow, Ruskin, Arnold, Emerson, Dickens and Poe used to illustrate the lessons of oral as well as written language.
