The third piece by the author contributed from Spain during the Spanish Civil War. Text is accompanied by a graphic photograph of a row of dead Spanish children killed by a fascist air-attack. Hemingway comments on an article that had appeared in the Paris edition of the New York Herald Tribune which reported that Cardinal Hayes, of New York City, had defended Franco against critics and denied the fascist rebel leader would do such things as order air-attacks that resulted in the deaths of children. The author's account of the 1959 bullfight season which included a head to head, or mano a mano, between brothers-in-law Antonio Ordonez and Luis Miguel Dominguin, who had come out of retirement, and who were both personal friends of the author. Scribner's would not publish the book until 1985. The first issue, at page 2, includes a short piece from the editor called Two Prideful Rivals and a Prideful Life, and the third issue reprints a cable from the Hemingway one year later, at page 96, that brings the careers of the two matadors up-to-date.
