Description:
London: Self-published, 1941. Book. Good. Paperback. First Edition. Small Folio [34 x 22 cm]. Very scarce- just one copy held in UK libraries and that at the London Natural History Society Library. pp. [2], 25, copied typescript. Original card covers stapled at spine with typed title to front cover. Some general wear to the wrappers, more or less split along the fold-line of the spine, a little marked. Contents very good, lightl marked to first page. A good to very good copy. Bristowe's opening paragraph reads "My original intention was to include a chapter on the relations between man and spider in my book, The Comity of Spiders (Ray Society, 2 Vols., 1939-1941). Later it seemed more appropriate to deal with this subject separately. This little book is intended to be some small contribution to knowledge and thought, but I shall have failed in my purpose if it cannot be understood by any but experts and it if does not provide some interest, amusement, or shock to all who read it.".
