There is a pinhead sized rub to one tip but otherwise the dj is very good . Not clipped. Nice and bright and unfaded. Label to front of dj claiming 'Signed Copy' still intact. Alan Paton's 'Cry, The Beloved Country', set just before the introduction of the Apartheid system in an already racially divided South Africa , was first published in 1948. The novel follows Stephen Kumalo, a pastor from rural area to Johannesburg in search of his son. Beautifully written, it is recognised as on of South Africa's great novels. Covers are bright with a little dustiness to the off-white areas. There is an old price label to the front and mark to the back but overall the covers are solid as is the complete spine. A large, heavy book that will attract extra postage charges overseas. This is a handsome copy of 'The Far Pavilions' by M M Kaye. The dustjacket is bright and not faded, unclipped and with minor rub to edges. There is a short crease to the spine. The spine is not faded. To the reverse of the dustjacket are a few shallow 'dings' but these do not show to front of dustjacket. The boards are smart with complete spine which bears some creasing, again due to the weight of the book. The contents bear a tiny spot of dustiness to front otherwise without markings. This is appears to be an ex library copy which looks like it was bound for the purpose in green cloth. Ffep is missing and there is one library stamp to rear of title page. Some stains throughout but on the whole this is a solid copy that will fill a gap in a collection of the Brother Cadfael Medieval whodunnits especially as the very first Cadfael novel. The Name of the Rose - a book by Umberto Eco is his debut novel. A lovely copy with bright covers and although the spine bears two fine creases, the spine has not been broken and the book appears unread. Please Note: The very last page bears some notes in pencil but someone has taken care not to 'break' the spine. Pages are otherwise unmarked and lightly age toned but very good overall. A medieval thriller set in a castle run by Benedictine monks where murder has become rife. A learned Franciscan is sent to solve the mystery.
