Description:
Chicago: Children's Press, 1997. 1st Edition 5th or later Printing. Soft cover. New/No Jacket Issued. Color photos throughout. CONDITION: UNREAD 1997 Children's Press paperback, 7th printing. One of the New True Book series. Problem: Name top title page - most likely a teacher's name who couldn't get anyone to read the book. Too bad - good book for elementary school kids. Color ruins of Anasazi homes (Mesa Verde, etc.), pottery, etc. Simple text for early readers, yet full of information for the youngest history buff. More kids need to know about the ancient American civilizations. Perfect for home schooling. CONTENT: Describes the homes, culture, and way of life of the Anasazi, the Ancient Ones of the southwestern United States whose descendants (we believe) became the Pueblo Indians.

University of Arizona Press, 1991. 1st Edition 1st Printing. Hardcover. As New/Good+. Color & B&W illustrations throughout. CONDITION: UNREAD, but not quite perfect, 1991 Univ. of Arizona Press hardcover (beige boards) & dust jacket (Good+, in mylar cover), first edition, first printing. PROBLEM: The DJ shows edge wear (see scans) top edge with some sunning to spine bleeding into back DJ panel. (I have done a bit of cosmetic work on the DJ - not shown - and it does look better.) B&W drawings and illustrations along with color plates of the completed Kachinas. Interior clean & tight. CONTENT: Much has been written about the popular kachina dolls carved by the Hopi Indians of northern Arizona, but little has been revealed about the artistry behind them. Now Helga Teiwes describes the development of this art form from early traditional styles to the action-style kachina dolls made popular in galleries throughout the world, and on to the kachina sculptures that have evolved in the last half of the 1980s.… Read More

Description:
Simon & Schuster, 1992. 1st Edition 1st Printing. Hardcover. New/New. Surprisingly, no illustrations. CONDITION: UNREAD 1992 Simon & Schuster hardcover (blue boards) & dust jacket, first edition, first printing. Deckle edges. No illustrations. Introduction by Jan Morris. CONTENT: I have always had a problem with the term "lyrical" being applied to non-fiction works. I was wrong. THIS is lyrical - just not on each page. Australian novelist Keneally brings his lively imagination to bear on the American Southwest. This is a sometimes sketchy account of a midwinter swing, by car and cross-country skis, through Colorado, Utah, Arizona, and New Mexico. Keneally doesn't talk to people much, and his reactions to landscapes can be predictable: ``Maybe religion is so strong in this landscape because this is terrain which puts the human in his place.'' But as in The Playmaker and Schindler's List, history is what moves him. He offers lively capsule biographies of figures who sum up an impulse, an era, a… Read More
