The etching illustrates two chefs preparing food.Fritz Gross (1895 -1969) Architect and artist, the instigator of open plan design, born in Brelitz, an Austrian Jew who fled to England with his family in 1938 at the invitation of the President of the Royal Institution of British Architects. The Fritz Gross collection is housed in the Ashmolean Museum in Oxford.

George Rose (1817-1882) a former curate in Camberwell, London. After leaving the Church of England in 1855, Rose underwent a major career change and began to write under the pseudonym Arthur Sketchley.
His fictitious character Mrs. Brown's monologues became a major success. Rose's creation was from a working class background and addressed the current topics of the day in a humorous and colloquial fashion.

This Edition De Luxe is published by the kind permission of the Proprietors of the "Evening Times". nd. [1903] Quarto. 26 plates, mounted on card, each tissue guarded with descriptive legend. Whilst the card mounts show foxing, the mounted plates are unaffected. Original green cloth, red lettering and gold-tooled heraldic motifs, soiled and rubbed with wear to extremities. Hinges cracked. Signed by the artist. John McLure Hamilton (1853-1936) Anglo-American artist, caricaturist, and cartoonist; he was the official portrait painter to Gladstone.
