Francis Kingdon-Ward (1885-1958) English botanist, explorer, plant collector and author. A classic work of exploration and plant hunting.

"Tibet has always exercised a fascination over the minds of men... Its aloofness, its sublime heights, its well-guarded and remote approaches, above all the strange culture and religious fervour of its people, all tend to make it even in these days a land of mystery."

The story of his 1,000 mile Tibetan journey from Assam in 1935, extended with the observations on the Balipara Frontier Tract, its flowers, its people and its geography, made three years later on his second visit.
