Framed In original burlwood frame, 17"x 21"; original textile, matted under glass, measures 11"x14". Handmade art, probably by a woman, with initials 'CGG' inked at bottom right-corner. A fine example of domestic African-Americana art. An inked homily describes the scene-- A Cheerful Kitchen-- Bright and Gay--- Will Make All Troubles-- Fade Away -- 1939, CGG. Art textile shows two domestic Black workers, a cook and manservant, busy in a country kitchen. Made of fabrics sewn on linen, crayon and pencil-- in shades of peach, pink, gold, cream, black and brown. From estate of Eric Carlson, a professional dealer of 19th-20th century French and American prints and drawings and a university professor of art history at SUNY-Purchase In excellent condition-- one corner of original burlwood frame is dented.
