A musical based on the 1873 novel by Jules Verne, as well as the 1956 film directed by Michael Anderson, and starring David Niven and Shirley MacLaine. Englishman Phileas Fogg accepts a bet that he and his resourceful valet Passepartout can circumnavigate the globe via hot air balloon in 80 days.

Barer was a lyricist, librettist, singer, songwriter, and director, and is credited with writing nearly 3000 lyrics, the most famous of which is the well-known "Mighty Mouse Theme (Here I Come to Save the Day)," written in 1958 for the cartoon series of the same name.

Barer's vast output included writing songs for such stars as Harry Belafonte, Sarah Vaughan, and Nat King Cole, as well as collaborations with Alec Wilder, Dean Fuller, Mary Rodgers, David Raskin, Duke Ellington, and many, many others. For the musical presented here, Barer collaborated with celebrated French composer Michel Legrand, although, as with much of Barer's prolific and ambitious output, the musical was never produced.

There have been several musical productions of the novel, most notably the unsuccessful 1946 Broadway extravaganza, produced, directed, and with a book written by Orson Welles, and music and lyrics by Cole Porter, starring Arthur Margetson and Mary Healy.
