Six Volumes, 4" h x 3" w. Peter Rabbit is dated 1911 other five are 1905. Bound in original red paper covered boards with pictorial down the front covers that are surrounded by a stamped design of holly and berries. White paper inside aged with yellowish tint. each book has numerous full-page color and some black and white illustrations throughout, the only credited illustrator John R. Neill for Peter Rabbit. Introductions by L. Frank Baum. Publisher's ads at ends. A Very Good set, lacking the original slipcase, spines are rubbed and falling apart, binding on Cinderella is gone. Interior contents are good solid some pages do have pencil writing/ marks from a child SCARCE as a complete set. The tumultuous and complicated history of "Little Black Sambo" as a book and as a pejorative term adds a painful overlay to this otherwise charming Christmas stocking stuffer. Rare Copy of Book Copyright 1887 by Houghton, Mifflin and Company 112 pages Measures approximately 4.5" wide x 6-7/8" tall x 5/8" thick Please look over item carefully, as all vintage items are sold as is and final sale. Front and back cover have spots, scuffs, loss of color. Spine canvas edges have rub wear and some holes break down of canvas exterior. Some dark stains along various pages. Gold gilt mostly intact. Binding is intact, spine slightly loose from bound pages. Binding has wear down and rub wear, same with front and back cover. Corners are rubbed down. Pages have various spots stains on some pages. The page corners show wear. No dust jacket. Please view all photos very carefully for so you understand the condition of this rare book! Additional photos upon request. Last endpaper back hardcover is pulling tearing from bound book.
