Stapled wrappers measuring 8 1/2 by 5 1/2 inches. Many local ads contemporary with the performance. Old (dry) sticker shadow on front wrapper at top edge (see Photo 8). Abrasion to bottom edge of final leaf, no text affected (see Photo 7). GOOD condition overall.

Publisher's green cloth illustrated in black and stamped in gilt, small octavo, pp. 97. Previous owner's tasteful small book plate on front paste down. Top edge gilt. Note that sixteen plates are called for, but the plate supposed to face page 78 is missing, so there are only 15 plates. Additionally, the plate to face page 50 is loose and is simply laid in. Some pages are foxed heavily, others less so. Plates are quite clean. Dame Ellen Terry was great aunt of Sir John Gielgud. This volume from the Stars of the Stage series edited by J. T. Grein.

Previous owner or dealer has erased an old price and a two-line passage from the free front end-paper and inserted a new code in ink (in a small hand, thankfully). Foot of spine bumped and rubbed through. Light foxing top edge. Old tide marks at bottom of fore-edge, confined to fore-edge, no interior marginal intrusion. GOOD condition withal. Dust jacket a bit weary from pre-mylar days with loss at foot of spine and an old tea-like stain at bottom of rear panel. Publisher's price snipped out a little awkwardly on front flap. Jacket protected now from further wear by a new sheet of archival Brodart.

Hardcover. First AMS Edition, [1970], 12mo, pp. 218. Reprinted from the London edition of 1857. Very good in the publisher's brown cloth with spine lettering gilt.

Publisher's stapled card-stock wrappers, octavo, pp. 92. Just light shelf wear at spine ends. Housed in a 1964 mailing envelope from NET to a professional address in Savannah, GA.

Extra Illustrated Edition limited to 1000 copies, of which this is Number 615, in the publisher's dulled, gilt-stamped and single-ruled white buckram, quarto, pp. xvi, 381. Top edge gilt is dull, as well. New York Times clipping from 1974 advertising this book at $65 is laid in at front. Our careful collation of this richly adorned volume agrees with the List of 93 illustrations called for in the Table of Contents. Additionally, there are 8 tissue-guarded photogravure plates. These plates have foxing, sometimes substantial, in their margins and on their versos, but thankfully not on the pictures themselves. Four of the plates and 16 of the other images are included in this Large Paper edition only.

Third edition, octavo, pp. xv, [1], 1-280. Illustrations. Small remainder mark, bottom edge near spine, else very good in the publisher's illustrated card-stock wrappers.

Jacket ensconced now in a sheet of protective mylar.
