Winter: From the Journal of Henry David Thoreau. Volume VIII of the Writings of HDT, 'Riverside Edition', 1887.

By Thoreau, Henry David

Near Fine but for an unfortunate accident when the first reader (presumed) opened the book and did not realize the first few pages (vii, viii, 1, 2) were as-of-yet uncut and were subsequently torn. It happened again to pps 31, 32, 33, 34. Oddly enough, pps 3, 4, 5, 6 remain to-this-day, uncut along the foredge. It is in such nice condition otherwise it is safe-to-say that the volume was read only a few times, perhaps just once. Small bookshop sticker to the gutter of the rear cover from the Holliday bookshop in NYC on 47th st. We also have a companion volume (Summer) from the same set and bookshop. Interesting reading from this great NE author. .

We also have a companion volume (Winter) from the same set and bookshop. Interesting reading from this great NE author. By Cooper, James Fenimore

23 volumes, all copyrighted by W. A. Townsend and Company 1859/60, formerly Stringer & Townsend. Original green cloth lettered & with publishers device in gilt on spines. This partial set was part of a very early acquisition of the Franconie Free Library during the late 1800's, and tranferred to the new location in 1914 where all approximately 4000 books were given numbers. The book numbers on the library plates in the rear of each volume bear numbers 124-152. They had remained in the attic storage till a recent sale for, at least, the past 50 years, likely much longer. Attractive library bookplate (Old Man of the Mountains) adorns each book front cover verso, small light white 'c' on spines, and the aforementioned card pocket & original library book plate in the rear. All-in-all an attractive set taking up about 30" of shelf space. Extra shipp will likely apply, please inquire directly if concerned. Thanks, Mat Glover in Lincoln, NH. .
