Nice gold coloured dust jacket with burgundy letters. Book is clean, tight, bright, looks unopened. Has 1/2 inch dog-ears on two pages but have been restored flat. Original small anti-theft sticker on inside back cover. No inscriptions. Two large sections of black/white photo plates.

Covers curve outward a bit, and spine is curved and has 3/4 inch tear. Some chipping and creases, but cover colour is good. Book is a bit cracked after title page, and page 599-600 has a large diagonal rip almost all the way through, but not quite. Page 601-602 has a 1/2 inch tear. Also has 1/4 inch of page that is unclipped, which was like that when issued. Pages 629 to 634 are torn at edges with some small pieces missing. Photo of book is online. Ten black/white photos on inside covers, all different. Biography of William Randolph Hearst.

Spine has minor edge wear and two 1/16 inch tears at top, has a bit of wrinkling at top half of front side of spine, has a 1/8 inch dent in back side of spine but did not break the cloth, and a minor bit of edge wear at bottom. Front cover is same as back, with a tiny bit of sunning just where front cover meets top of spine. Page edges are bright white. Book is slightly over-opened at pages 14 and 154 but no pages loose or missing. Inside back cover the sewing of binding is more easily seen than usual but no cracks, looseness or pages missing. Spine has a wrinkle which seems to be as issued, a thin black mark across (not a remainder mark), and a 1/4 inch tear at the bottom of the spine but paper still in place. Front cover has a number of minor creases and a deeper one at spine corner and a deep crease 4 inches long across bottom of front with several lesser creases on each side however no paper is torn or missing.
