Very good with spare handling marks and a few closed tears (less than 1 in.) at lower margin. Overall, a strikingly well-preserved example of this rare poster commemorating the achievements of Joseph Charles Price. According to Blackpast.org, "Price, founder and first president of Livingston College, in North Carolina, was born free on February 10, 1854 in Elizabeth City, Price studied at St. Cyprian Episcopal School founded for the children of ex-slaves by Boston educators. He later attended Shaw University in Raleigh in 1873 but transferred to Lincoln University in Pennsylvania in 1875. Price graduated as valedictorian in 1879 after winning several oratorical prizes. Description:
70 pp. collection of stories, illustrated throughout. 8vo. [Accent of California International Writers Series, 2] Very good. Illus. stiff wraps. [1406]
The Kentucky-born, Los Angeleno author's debut short story collection, including "The Price of Dirt," "The Way of Shadows," "In the Dark," "Waiting for Mongo," and "Roman Times," which won the Gwendolyn Brooks Literary Award in 1972. In his preface to the work, Jones explains that "most of the stories in this collection employ modern literary techniques as diverse as impressionism and surrealism, and especially important is the experimental synthesis of fantasy/realism. Myths and mythical notions, for example, are sometimes utilized in a campy fashion. Black field hand dialect might end up in the mouths of the most educated aristocrats. Nevertheless, all of this is not only plausible and appropriate to the situation, but also creates effects which are organically natural to the stories in this book. THE PRICE OF DIRT is the collected stories of a… Read More

Description:
104 pp. gay and lesbian community directory, illus. 4to. Very good. Illus. stiff wraps. [1752]
From Cordova's introduction: "Just a short ten years ago, the list of LA's lesbian and gay organizations could be squeezed onto a 3 x 5 file card. The first (and only) Metropolitan Community Church, the Gay Community Services Center, The Advocate newspaper, the Daughters of Bilitis Lesbian Center, One inc., and the Crenshaw Women's Center were the only numbers you could dial and expect a warm response. The 1982 Community Yellow Pages lists 161 groups, centers, and organizations which serve our needs from camping to counseling, from the economic to the educational. To me this book is about love and courage. It is a statement about love and belonging to our particular society, and a statement of courage and strength in our commitment to make Change." Scarce.

Bound with brass rivets, each photograph has been encapsulated in Mylar for ease of handling ; the ensemble is housed in a custom black leather etui. [1471]
A breath-taking document of Andy Warhol's creative process at the Factory, circa 1977, including twenty photographs showing Warhol with his own Polaroid camera, shooting images of two unidentified men engaged in acts of an intimate nature for a series known as Sex Parts and Torsos. The other images show the artist mixing and applying pigments in the studio, and cutting red paper, two samples of which are included in the sequence. These six photo-booklets were made by Ronnie Cutrone, Warhol's assistant at the Factory from 1972 until 1980. They come to us via the collection of artist Dickie Landry, who received them as a gift from his friend, Norman Fisher, shortly before Fisher's death from… Read More

A fascinating work of graphic art produced by Architects and Planners Against the War, an organization with chapters in New York and the Bay Area that sought to organize professionals in architecture and city planning against U.S. involvement in Vietnam. The group has cited by architectural historian Brian D. Goldstein for its further engagement with the Black Power movement to decry so-called "urban renewal," the government-backed clearance and reconstruction of American cities in the postwar period. Description:
Unpaginated artists' book [24 pages, french fold] printed in letterpress on cream colored laid paper, reproducing texts and images that relate to Spirits. 4to. Hand numbered and signed at the colophon. Fine. Single hand-sewn signature in a card stock cover, wrapped in mottled brown laid paper printed with the title text. [1143]
Book of Spirits was printed at Firefly Press to accompany the exhibition of paintings by Naomi Yang at Galerie Mourlot, Boston, September 6-October 15, 1994. According to Yang's introduction, "this little book is an attempt to give some account of those Spirits about whom every person ought to know something. The Grimorium Verum mentions seventeen of the most important subordinate Spirits. As in choosing a cricket eleven the first choices are easy and the last very difficult to make, so it has been here. And if the reader feels that some Spirit who has been omitted should have the place of one who is represented, why, very likely the reader is right." Co-publisher of Exact… Read More
