Description:
Seaforth Publishing, 2012. New book, 64 pages. The 'ShipCraft' series provides in-depth information about building and modifying model kits of famous warship types. Lavishly illustrated, each book takes the modeller through a brief history of the subject class, highlighting differences between sister-ships and changes in their appearance over their careers. This includes paint schemes and camouflage, featuring colour profiles and highly-detailed line drawings and scale plans. The modelling section reviews the strengths and weaknesses of available kits, lists commercial accessory sets for super-detailing of the ships, and provides hints on modifying and improving the basic kit. This is followed by an extensive photographic gallery of selected high-quality models in a variety of scales, and the book concludes with a section on research references - books, monographs, large-scale plans and relevant websites. The Iowa class were the largest, fastest and most modern US battleships of the war, and… Read More

Description:
Osprey Pub Co, 2014. New book, 48 pages, MAA492. In the 1970s, during the ruinous 30-year dictatorship of General Mobutu, periodic rebellions required the hasty insertion once again of Belgian and French paratroops to save European lives. From the mid-1990s the country split again, becoming the battleground for the largest African war in history, as armies and rebel groups from Rwanda, Angola, Zimbabwe, Uganda, Namibia and other countries crossed into the Congo to support one side or the other, or simply to loot the rich resources. Major operations ended - or paused - in 2002, but the old hatreds and constant lure of the Congo's natural resources continue to boil over into periodic outbreaks. Featuring specially commissioned full-colour artwork and rare photographs, this is the harrowing story of the wars that ravaged the Congo for four decades.. Soft Cover. As New. Illus. by Ruggeri, Raffaele. 8vo - over 7¾" - 9¾" tall.

Description:
Stratus, 2022. New book, 192 pages. This book was written to redress this imbalance and tell the true story behind the development and operational deployment of the world’s first high-speed strategic reconnaissance aircraft, which began 6,000 miles further east and four years prior to the momentous events in Europe, under the guidance of the Imperial Japanese Army and Mitsubishi Heavy Industries Co Ltd. Faced with similar preconceptions, technical arguments, and a very rigid operational doctrine, the Mitsubishi Babs was developed during a brief golden aeronautical period (between the mid 1930s and early 1940s), when the Japanese aircraft industry flourished under constant military aircraft competitions and production orders. Free from prying eyes and shrouded within a self-imposed veil of secrecy, the Japanese developed numerous designs that were equal to and in some cases ahead of contemporary Western manufacturers. This book is the most comprehensive on the 'Babs' yet published in… Read More

Description:
Special Interest Model Books, 2006. New book, 228 pages. Electronic and electromechanical control of machinery and equipment in the factory environment has been commonplace for many years and is steadily finding its place in the model engineer's workshop. This book gives the theoretical and practical details of electronic circuits that can be used to control machinery for the model engineer and the 'inventor'. There has recently been a huge expansion in computer and electronic control which model engineers have found desirable, yet expensive. Here, the author provides the vital information for the model engineer to build his own control units using a modular, or "building block", approach. This work brings modern machinery control technology within reach of the model engineer, the robotics enthusiast and the experimenter. It features simple explanations and clear, easy-to-follow circuit details.. Soft Cover. As New. 8vo - over 7¾" - 9¾" tall.

Description:
Wingleader, 2023. New book, 73 pages. Since launching this series, a lot of people have asked us if we were going to include the Spitfire Mk.II. Unfortunately, although we could probably have scraped enough images together, not a lot happened with the Mk.II in terms of development, so it would have been a pretty dull book! It then occurred to us that our very first book on the Spitfire Mk.I only covered up to the end of the Battle of Britain, so maybe we could revisit the Mk.I as well in a new Mk.II book, but with more emphasis on the late 1940/early 1941 period. Also at this time, our old friend Richard Alexander was deep into researching early Spitfires for his superb Kotare model kit range, so we asked him if he'd consider producing a 'Spitfire Mk.I/II Special' to feature all the new Mk.I information that he had unearthed whilst covering the Mk.II in our usual style. And so, this unique book was born! We've tried wherever possible to include new photos and not to retread aspects… Read More

Description:
Alpha, 2004. New book, 322 pages. The strategy of stealth is as old as war itself. The ancient strategies of deception, surprise, and camouflage served up victories for brilliant military leaders from Alexander the Great to MacArthur. But never in the history of combat have the rules of engagement changed as dramatically as with the introduction of modern stealth warfare. Silent, deadly, automated, and precise within meters, this new technology affects every aspect of military deployment on land, sea, and air. In this book, expert author David Alexander details the evolution of modern stealth weaponry from the two World Wars to Cold War advances in air and sea power to space-age technologies employing robotic armoured vehicles, satelite guidance, and smart missile systems. This well researched, illustrated, and detailed book brings you everything there is to know about the face of war in the twenty first century and beyond.. Soft Cover. Description:
Wingleader, 2020. New book, 81 pages, 120 photos, 6 colour profiles. For quite a few years, Simon Parry and Mark Postlethwaite have been building up a huge library of original WWII aviation photos, partly as a hobby but mainly to help provide photos for the books that they publish. With over 30,000 now in the collection, they realised that they had more than enough to produce a series of photo books on individual aircraft types and sub-types. They set out to make the series as ideally suited to modellers and artists as possible, so large photos, using A4 landscape format, and minimal text except for extended captions. Effectively their aim is to produce a 21st Century version of the Profile Publications series of books from the 1960s, using the latest technology to reproduce their wartime photos to the highest standard possible. This series is unique in that it will be able to provide large format ORIGINAL photos up to full A4 landscape format width, which is at least 50% larger than any standard… Read More
