Some discoloration inside front cover on Whittaker & Co.'s advertisement page, as well as two chips which do not affect the text. The gilt steam locomotive on the front cover is bright. Overall, this book is in decent condition for 127 years old, with tight bindings and the slightest of shelf wear. (42206) . Very Good. Hardcover.

London: J.M. Dent & Sons. 1926. 442pp. This is a Temple Classics edition. Generally, the left page has the original Italian, while the right page has the English translation. There is much commentary throughout (in English). The book is in great shape for nearly 100 years old, with the page-marking ribbon and the tissue page protecting the front illustration intact and the spinal gilt still bright. The top corners are a little bumped. The top page edge is gilded, while the open and bottom edges are untrimmed. The final blank leaf has a 1/4" tear on the open page edge. The dust jacket is a bit worn, though, with creases and wear around the edges and corners, a small chunk missing from the bottom front hinge corner and top 1/8" of the backstrip. There is a 1" tear at the top front panel and a few smaller tears at the top of the rear panel, along with a few small soil spots. The inside of the book is essentially pristine, with countless pictures of various crafts, from carpentry and woodcarving to quilt-making, scrimshaw, metal-working, and more. (58145) . The cover seems offset about 1/16" from the pages, and the backstrip is a bit lumpy with a slight crease, which all implies the cover has been re-glued, perhaps by the previous owner whose name appears on the half-title page.
