Description:
Article extracted from Proceedings of Royal Geographical Society and bound in card covers. 22 pages in fine condition. I think the first page of the article is a high quality reproduction. Lecture by Greely touches upon his Arctic exploration begun in 1881. He mentions the Franklin rescue efforts. Author also discusses the dangers of Arctic work and his personal experience. "We suffered about as much discomfort as I have suffered in my life in a given amount of time." They were trapped with one month of provisions at the onset of 7-8 months of winter. Please see scans of the item you will receive.

Description:
Volume 3 of Adams' Lectures. 1794. Series had 4 volumes of text and one volume of plates. This volume in original full leather boards. Boards are almost off. Text block is sound and volume could be recased easily in original boards. Interior is very good; foxing in front and rear pages; internally minimal foxing; no vandalism. Old owner's note on blank end paper. Complete as published plus quire 3 (pages 17-32) from volume 4 accidentally inserted between pages 576-577 here. Does not detract from volume in any way. Although the owner of volume 4 might feel otherwise. I have volume 2 listed also. Please see scans of the book you will receive.

Description:
1794 first UK edition. Volume is very good condition: no interior markings of any kind, most pages are uncut. Text block is soundly sewn with protective cardboard covers but has never been formally bound. Volume 2 of 5 volume set. (Volumes 1-4 are text; volume 5 is index and 39 plates.) This volume is complete as issued with all blanks. Collates: i-vii, 1-561, [2]. Adams was scientific instrument maker to George III. Adams is important in the history of the progress of science as he strongly advocated experimental science. I have provided a page from his lecture: "On The Method of Reasoning in Natural Philosophy" (p. 98 this volume) describing his commitment to experimental science. I cannot overstate the importance of this shift in scientific thinking - relying on experimental data instead of the wisdom of the ancients. The other feature of this volume, besides content, is that it is in its original state. New books sold in 1794 were presented to the buyer in exactly this condition. Plain cardboard…

First edition, first printing, hardcover with dust jacket in archival cover. Dust jacket has chips at the edges and a chunk out of the spine (see scans). Book has some foxing or stains on end papers that correspond with dust jacket. Some minor spots at top of boards. No interior markings. A decent copy of an obscure book you know you just have to have for shelf of odd and strange titles. Includes all kinds pertinent facts from the 1950's like "nobody knows why you get hangovers." I think somebody knows and has known for 7000 years - alcohol causes hangovers. There is a lot of other fun stuff in there. Please see scans of the book you will receive.

This is a used in flight magazine from Air New Zealand, 1987. It has creases, stains and signs of general use. Issue has several articles on Japan but also on the Barrier Reef and the South Island in winter. Plenty of photos and ads. Airline and Pacific ephemera. Please see scans of the item you will receive. Items like this are true ephemera: everyone treats them terribly and then tosses them. At one time there were thousands, now only 30 years later they are likely gone.

Description:
American Tract Society pamphlet #33 circa 1855, New York. This pamphlet has inscription containing date, 1855. Numerous books and pamphlets with similar titles were produced by a variety of authors so there is understandably some confusion. I am reasonably confident this is the first American edition of this particular pamphlet. The Society frequently 'borrowed' material from the UK publishers so there may be earlier UK editions. The primary condition feature this pamphlet has going for it is that it still exists and is complete. As you can see from the images it is faded, stained, smudged and the cover is almost off. Paginates: (1)-32 pages including frontis. Notes: For those of you with bibliographic questions I suggest OCLC: 55129232 which is this exact copy but misdated (locates 2 copies). For a more complete look at dates see OCLC: 233639908 which discusses a similar item held at the American Antiquarian Society and confirms the 1855 date. Feel free to inquire. Uncommon in this early state. More…

Description:
1858 first (and only) edition. Hardcover in original brown and gilt blindstamped boards. Overall condition is Good. Boards show moderate general wear, binding is sound. Interior has partially removed Sabbath School bookplate and old seller's pencil note. Missing one front blank. All else complete. Paginates: blank, 67, 2 blanks, with 16 plates included in pagination. The plates are on stiff white paper. Most pages show modest to moderate foxing. 6x4 inches. An uncommon item. None for sale, one found at auction (this copy). WorldCat locates 4 physical copies. See OCLC: 15031839. Please see images of the book you will receive. Feel free to inquire. Notes: Interest here is in the detailed vignettes which show Mom on fire, Junior getting his foot amputated, murder, shipwrecks and more. Then there are the elaborate borders which include snakes, skulls, skeletons and burning cups of fire. Introduction says this is intended for children. Definitely not at bedtime.
