Love's Revenge by Mrs Belloc Lowndes (London: The Readers Library Publishing Company Ltd, [1929]*). The Readers Library published affordable editions of popular fiction in the period 1924-35, cheaply produced but very attractive with their wrap-round dustwrapper artwork. Mrs [Marie] Belloc Lowndes (1868-1947), a prolific and popular author perhaps best known for "The Lodger" (Methuen, 1913) which was later made into a film directed by Alfred Hitchcock (Gainsborough Pictures, 1926). Superb dustwrapper art with the two lovers in a library, a face peering in at the window, and a floating bottle of Strychnine whose fumes spell out the title.
