1896-7 EXTREMELY EARLY ALBUM OF X-RAY PHOTOGRAPHS[X-RAYS] Barthelemy, Toussaint & Oudin, Paul Oblong 8vo, burgundy leatherette, rubbed with loss to spine. 1896-7. The album contains, containing silver gelatin prints (15), each approximately 5x7 inches or slightly smaller. The extraordinary x-ray photographs feature multiple views of the bones of hands (a few with broken joints an done taken under a cracked glass filter) and other skeletal regions of the human body.The most unusual perhaps is a purse and the sole of a shoe (which foreshadows x-ray airport security) as well as a rat, which is certainly among the earliest examples of animal radiography. Profusely illustrated with a great variety of measuring methods for civil and military purposes. This treatise explains how to measure great distances, heights or areas, using geometric methods. The author also addresses the problem of perspective and geometric projection. The fourth book is dedicated to the construction and use of the compass, while in the book V Bartoli deals with Euclidean geometry. Finally, in book VI, the author studies square roots.

Gumuchian n ° 921, list booklet. OCLC lists Royal Library Netherlands, V&A, University of California and Lily Library but only with four books (out of 8).

Trattato delle Razze dei Cavalli. Near Fine. 2 engraved folding plates, light browning and spotting throughout, front endpaper detaching, a few leaves chipped, ownership note of Antonio Paolo Scotti, ex libris of Adolphus Trollope and armorial bookplate bearing motto 'bene quodcunque est', pasted on title, cute contemporary patterned paper wrappers, title label to spine, rubbed, Fratelli Reycends (Stamperia Reale), Turin , 1781. Rare treatise on horses mentioning hundreds of breeds, with particular details. Also of veterinarian interest. The author was director of Belluno veterinary school and wrote another work on equine medicine in 1774. Provenance: From the library of Thomas Adolphus Trollope (1810-1891), Travel writer , novelists, brother of Anthony Trollope. I located six copies worldwide (one of them is in the US). A fine copy.
