Description:
The Arthur H. Clark Company, 1941. 1st Edition. Hardcover. Very Good. First revised edition. Full green cloth with gilt lettering & rules to spine, top edge gilt, other edges untrimmed, 9-1/2" tall, 360 pp., folding map frontis, plate illustrations including one other map. Stain and paper pull to front endpapers, possibly removal of bookplate, else near fine. A handsome copy of an important work which I personally found to be more readable than comparable works.

Description:
Harper & Brothers, 1874. 1st Edition. Hardcover. Near Fine. Hardcover with beveled boards, full green cloth with central gilt image to front board with black ruled borders, spine with gilt lettering and decorative rules, publisher logo and rules in black on rear board, brown clay-coated endpapers, title page vignette (same image as front board stamp) and plate illustrations, 7-5/8" x 5-1/2", 403 pp. Slight wear to corners, very minor flecking to cloth, a lovely example. As Edward Stone pointed out (Studies in the Novel, Winter 1975), Nimrod closely resembles Herman Melville's Moby-Dick in many ways, but in no way mentions or credits it; nor do either of the two reviews in Harper's Magazine, including one of 10,000 words. "That the silence regarding Melville's greatest novel could be shared by author and reviewer of Nimrod convincingly demonstrates that within a single generation Melville had become the 'buried author.

Reno: University of Nevada, 1978. Limited Edition. Hardcover. Near Fine. Signed by Author(s). Limited edition, cream cloth with decorative paper paste down adhered to front panel, folio, 52 pages, 43 woodcuts; a beautifully crafted book with publisher's announcement laid in. Limited to 105 copies, of which 90 were offered for sale. This edition is printed on an 1837 super-royal handpress at the University of Nevada on Tovil paper with Mandlik and Kelsey ink. From the publisher's announcement: "In the 1950's d'Azevedo became friends with the Washoe Indians who lived in Western Nevada and on the eastern slope of the Sierra Nevada in California. They were followers of the Native American Church whose sacrament was the Peyote Cactus and who referred to their religion as the Tipi Way...always central to the narratives is the solemn and rigorous dedication to the Peyote Way, to the emancipation of one's self and one's fellows from ignominy and helplessness.
