Large, black photo album which measures: 15 1/4" x 11 1/4", 3" thick, with 80 leaves/160 pages. Numerated on the top right corner of the right-hand pages (up to 76). Photos vary in size. A proud American, Fred. E. Elder from Coshocton, Ohio, volunteered with the allied forces against a common enemy. His training began at Camp Sheridan, Montgomery, Alabama, and his service took him to Belgium, Italy, France, and back home to America. He wore the uniform for two years and eight days. Throughout these pages are poetry, postcards, photographs, commands from headquarters, praise from General Pershing, encouragement from President Wilson, copies of intercepted communications, summaries of intelligence (enemy artillery, traps and mines, rumors of peace, etc.). The thick brown 9.5 x 11" album contains a plethora of photos and newspaper clippings documenting part of the career of Joan Exnicios, a model in the Washington, D.C. area in the 1950s and 1960s. Most of the clippings and photos in the album are loose, but there are around 20 professional headshots and photos in plastic sleeves held by the metal spirals of the album, 2 of which are in color. Loose within the album are around 48 other professional photos of Joan modeling for advertisements and in fashion shows. Photos measure between 3.25 x 4.25" and 12 x 9.5" and are mostly not annotated, although on the backs of some, Joan has noted what event or company the photo is for. The clippings are all of Joan's various modeling gigs, almost all for fashion, hats, and hair styles.
