Description:
New York: Random House, 1957. First/First. Hardcover. Very Good/very good. Another of those mixed state first editions, with 'First Printing' on the copyright page and the uncorrected error on p. 327, bound in burgundy-brown cloth with black text and green accent lines, and with a priced but undated DJ ($3.95, ads on rear flap). Top edge dyed Gatorade green. Considerations are as follows, in ascending order: General effects of age and light use incl. subtle toning to the jacket, heavier but still decent on the spine. Light-to-moderate edge wear including 1/8" and smaller chips at spine corners. Asmall tea-like stain, actually probably linseed oil or another such wood/furniture protector, on rear lower right corner, 1 1/8" X 3/4"; and another (or really, probably the same one), 3/8" X 1/4" at bottom left corner of front jacket flap. A short, whimsical animation of this event is furnished on the lower right page corners, which if flipped show this transparent,…

Description:
Solid, tight and square hard cover in chestnut brown buckram with red-gold gilding on the spine. No significant markings in or out except for a few lines underlined on page 263, seemingly by someone into Karl Jung in the 1970s -- a time when Jung's star was at an apex and popular paperback editions of his books filled the shelves, streets and open spaces of the whole entire world. Tucked into the very back of this copy is one of those little Brentano's stickers, attesting to a story arc that began with that famous New York bookseller. Some people collect those stickers; here's one. The edges and corners of the front boards and spine are mildly bumped. The front board had a small light spot. The recto ffep and its verso counterpart at the back of the book have that blush of foxing you see a lot on books from the late 19th century, and sometimes on ones from the early 20th C. prior to WWI. This book, like many from Kegan Paul of its period, has a distinctly Victorian vibe.
