And a classic that will endure because of the powerfully writing, as well as the subject matter.

The first printing would have been about 1000 copies, given that Faulks was a fairly new author and only mid-list at best. It was subsequently very quickly reprinted many times over. Faulks has now withdrawn from book signing, but happily signed this new rebinding of the first printing. It is an edition of 12 lettered copies, with an illustrated limitation page. Issued by the Scorpion Press in 2022. Ordinary signed first printings on the market are sometimes priced at over $1500!.

This copy has an attractive bookmark for the previous owner - Malcolm Ross-MacDonald. It is under the flap of the front dust jacket. Otherwise a fine copy.

Scarce in-house uncorrected proof copy of an early Dick Francis thriller. It has the name of the following words in red ink on the front cover , top right side: Agent_ John Johnson". Offered with a hand written letter from Francis, headed Redcliffe Hotel, Paignton, Devon. 48 words which closes with, Yours in haste Dick F. The text concerning signing the pages for the Scorpion edition of Second Wind, and he says "trust all who receive them will be well satisfied". A poignant and enthralling story that features a stupendous flying escape from the nasty villains. We have a hero who tries to be his own man - this time pursuing steeple-chasing and flying and earning a living. Flying Finish was voted the favorite Dick Francis novel on a fanzine website.We the proof was for in-house use, we can assume that very few copies survived. This copy is good only. The bottom right corner of the cover is missing, the page edges look used some page edges are folded.

This is the deluxe state, bound in quarter goatskin with five raised bands. Only twenty produced for subscribers and the authors. Dick Francis from the 70s on through to the 90s was a bestseller in the mystery field. These deluxe copies are signed by both Francis and H R F Keating, who wrote the Appreciation. An as new Scorpion Press signed limited (1/110 numbered) of a Dick Francis mystery. It contains an Appreciation by Simon Brett who was then President of the Detection Club and a long time fan of the Francis oeuvre. The jacket is clear acetate.

The Likeness by Tana French. This British first edition first printing has been rebound by the Scorpion Press in a run of twelve lettered copies. It contains a new introduction, signed by the author and was issued in 2020 with a photo of detective Cassie Maddox from the BBC adaptation shown in 2019. The binding is real leather with five raised bands, gold titling and the scorpion logo at the base of the spine. The sides are marbled papers and the book block has been coloured black.
