Description:
Focusing on the vulnerability and resilience to economic shocks at the household level, this book draws on extensive research activities carried out in two Melanesia countries: the Solomon Islands and Vanuatu. In particular, it identifies the household impacts of the recent food, fuel and economic crises. The contributors also examine resilience by identifying how households responded to these recent economic events in order to cope with their impacts. Findings indicate that households are vulnerable to a range of shocks and often struggle to cope with their impacts. Shocks are making it harder for households to meet their basic needs. Households in Melanesia are facing increasing demands for money, in particular for school fees, basic foodstuffs and customary obligations. Concurrently, there are limited domestic opportunities for formal employment. Traditional social support networks are strong and are an important form of resilience. However, there is evidence that they are disintegrating. Of…

Description:
A YOUNG BOY'S JOURNEY THROUGH THE LAND OF "NOs" ------- "NO!" was the answer given to everything and everyone the little boy encountered. Not even his loving mother would be able to sway him into a cooperative "YES." As time went on, the frustration of losing friends and becoming more isolated in his own "No Man's Land" caused the little boy to grow lonelier and sadder each day. In a story that may not be too uncommon, Sherilyn Fenn sensitively helps explore a seemingly troubled boy's life and how, in his great despair, he copes with being alone. She seeks to reveal how the smallest of adjustments in perception change and uplift one's life. The lesson of No Man's Land will ring true in the hearts of parents and children alike. So simple a lesson, yet so vast.

Description:
Gnosticism was considered a heresy among the early Christians and persisted for many centuries. Drawing upon the latest scholarship and a wide range of sources, including the writings of the Gnostics themselves, Giovanni Filoramo provides an introduction to this variation of early Christian dogma. He traces the origins and history of Gnosticism, from its beginning in the first two centuries AD, and the development of Gnostic beliefs and mystic philosophy. He aims to demonstrate the links between Gnosticism and heretical movements of early medieval Europe.

Description:
The Beautiful and Damned, first published in 1922, is F. Scott Fitzgerald's second novel. It explores and portrays New York café society and the American Eastern elite during the Jazz Age before and after the Great War and in the early 1920s. As in his other novels, Fitzgerald's characters in this novel are complex, especially with respect to marriage and intimacy. The work generally is considered to be based on Fitzgerald's relationship and marriage with his wife Zelda Fitzgerald. The Beautiful and Damned tells the story of Anthony Patch, a 1910s socialite and presumptive heir to a tycoon's fortune, and his courtship and relationship with his wife Gloria Gilbert. It describes his brief service in the Army during World War I, the couple's post-war partying life in New York, and his later alcoholism. Gloria and Anthony's story deals with the hardships of a relationship, especially when each character has a tendency to be selfish.
