Description:
A. Milar, 1749. 1st Edition, Second issue. Hardcover. Very Good. Sometimes referred to as first edition, second issue, sometimes second edition, this is the 1749 printing with errata corrected and a full list of contents for all six volumes printed in the beginning of Volume 1. Apparently, in its original binding of full mottled calf, gilt double ruled front and back with brown grain leather spine with gilt titles and devices. Some minimal wear to covers and some spotting here and there. Still, a sound, unsophisticated set of the original edition.

Description:
London: The Bodley Head, 1983. Hardcover. Fine/Near Fine. Later printings, all after firsts of 1958-1961, 1963. Volume 1, sixth impression, 1983. Volume 2, fourth impression, 1978. Volume 3, second impression, revised edition 1965. Volume 4, third impression of the revised edition of 1967. Volume 5 and 6, short stories introduced and edited by Malcolm Cowley, third impression, 1975. Apparently unread copies, uniformly fine in near fine, bright dustjackets, the spines of which are completely untoned, which is unusually seen for this set. The front dustjacket flaps were price-clipped to accommodate re-priced stickers from the publisher. Set owned by American stage, screen, and television actor Edward Herrmann (1940-2014) with his elegant trapezoidal monogrammed bookplate - EKH - on the front pastedown. The nicest set we have seen in original dustjackets.
