Description:
Goodall's celebrated book about the first ten years of her time as anthropologist Louis Leakey's designated chimp researcher at Gombe. Goodall became famous with this book such that if you know what this book is you'll know that this is the copy that you want. This is the UK first edition, first printing, of this book meaning a true first edition, with US edition following later. I'm going to say NF because I grade conservatively but the book is in 1971 bookstore condition free of major and even minor faults, while the dust jacket has faint discoloration on the front flap which I am only mentioning because there is noting better to talk about. Features many full page black and white photos and several full page color photos.

Description:
Goodall's classic book, In the Shadow of Man, told the story of her first ten years of her time among the chimps at Gombe. Through A Window covers the next twenty years including many of the most famous and interesting and sordid doings of Gombe's politicaly motivated, Machiavellian chimp community. There are also chimp heroes and heroines and many lessons to be learned for those able to see themselves in the mirror that Through A Window also provides.

Description:
This is the first U. S. edition, published simultaneously with the British edition, which means it doesn't have tipped-in plates, but does come in a larger format with a larger printed area on the full-page color plates. Color front cover pastedown and gilt.

For whatever reason, Rackham's Mother Goose is often in really not-good condition -- maybe because younger kids get at it. The big thing with this copy is that it has only twelve of the 13 issued color plates ('Jack and Jill' is absent) while a couple of the other plates are detached but laid in, and/or have old tape repair on the margins, since redone with archival tape on the other side. The images themselves are in fine shape; only some of the margins are affected. Front cover pastedown illustration is complete and entire, but faded as these usually are. Spine cloth is detached and verso edge. Book is otherwise holding together admirably with repaired front and back hinges. Spine gilt is bright, surprisingly enough. Priced very accordingly
