Written on the first page of this album is "Miss Elizabeth R. Hotchkiss, her book - 1900. (She became Mrs. Ed R. Johnson in 1901). Photos most all by Ed R. Johnson, also prints." Bess (short for Elizabeth) is pictured on the first page beside a view of the railroad tracks through the Berkshire Hills (Massachusetts) in the year 1900. Many photos telltale the life and works around Lake Michigan in Milwaukee, Wisconsin - where the couple moved around 1905. Earlier photos depict life on Sodus Bay, Lake Ontario, where each partner's families had summer homes - is that where these young lovers met? A number of stunning pictures capture the period's climate and infrastructure. There is a cyanotype which captures an impressive iceberg in Lake Michigan, about twelve feet above the water's surface off the shore of Milwaukee, WI.
