Total of 15 plates, 330 woodcuts in text, 44 tables. Translated from the German. Volume one has edge wear, wear to head and a large chip from spines (laid inside). Spine is detached but holds in place. Volume Two has a stain and small chip to top of spine. Marbled boards are bright, front hinge to Volume Two is cracked but binding sound to both volumes. Some age toning, foxing to both volumes, but text is unmarked. Haeckel [1834-1919] is best remembered today for his popularizing of Darwin and his book Art forms in Nature [Kunstformen der Natur].
