Nürnberg: Homann, J. B., 1748. 48.3 x 53.5 cm (19 x 21 inches).. Original antique copper engraving, hand colored in outline when published. A fine impression of this decorative map of Italy. With many engraved place-names, rivers, lakes and mountains. At the right upper corner is a decorative allegoric figurative cartouche. In the left side is the Isle Corsica to see. Inside this map are rivers, place names mountains and any trees pictured. Johann Baptist Homann (20 March 1664 – 1 July 1724) was a German geographer and cartographer, who also made maps of the Americas. Homann was born in Oberkammlach near Kammlach in the Electorate of Bavaria. Although educated at a Jesuit school, and preparing for an ecclesiastical career, he eventually converted to Protestantism and from 1687 worked as a civil law notary in Nuremberg.
