This edition, published by Richard Bentley in 1856, 23 years after the first English edition, features an engraved frontispiece and an introduction written by Frederic Shoberl, the original English translator of Hugo's work. Near Fine Condition. Blue cloth with gilt titles to spine. Book has been rebound with binder's ticket to front pastedown. Neat previous owner's inscription to front free end paper. Binding and hinges are firm. Pages are clean with minimal tannig. Boards have minor edge-wear with slight bumping to corners and light tear to spine ends. Light mottling to rear board.
