825-838 pages with tables, figures, maps and cited references. Royal octavo (9 1/2" x 6 1/4") bound in original publisher's wrappers. Volume 65, number 5 Part 1 complete issue. First edition.By the use of another formula it is possible also to arrive at the range of variation from the date obtained by the above means. In applying the glottochronological technique to the Eskimo family of languages some special problems were involved. Except for a few language pairs, there were not enough vocabulary items available to adequately fill in the original basic vocabulary. Due to this limitation, it was necessary to supplement the vocabulary. However, in making this change, it was no longer possible to rely on the dates obtained as absolute dates. The constant for the rate of drift was worked out on the basis of the original list and there is no way to demonstrate that the same constant would work for the new list other than going through all the labor involved in obtaining the original constant. xvi+110 pages with diagrams and index. Octavo (8 1/2" x 5 1/2") bound in original publisher's pictorial wrappers. Specialist chess openings. First edition. This rarely seen move has some logical basis. The pawn on e5 prevents Black playing Nf6 and so the Black Kingside is cramped for a while. White can support the e5 pawn with Nf3. The drawback for White of 2.e5 is no added pressure is brought to the center, especially on d4 or d5 and the extra tempo allows Black various options, the main one is play Nc6 which hinders White's d4 move as well as attacking the as yet undefended e5 pawn.

This edition edited by A Millares Carlo. Limited to 2000 copies this is a reprint of the 1886 edition. The pride of Hispanic American scholars and collectors in the work of the sixteenth-century press of Mexico has found its reflection in a group of special bibliographies and bibliographical monographs of which one customarily speaks in superlatives. Without in any sense lessening the degree of praise accorded the other, it can be said that the greatest among them all is the Bibliografiamexicana del siglo XVIof Joaquin Garcia Icazbalceta, first published in a splendid volume in 1886. That book declared itself on every page to be one of the most distinguished bibliographical works of the century, a noble tribute to the press whose work it recorded. Its historical discussion of the origins of the press in Mexico move the whole question into the…

Mayan is the latest great decipherment, to be set alongside the two great classics, Champollion's reading of Egyptian hieroglyphics in 1822, and Ventris & Chadwick's discovery in 1952 that the Linear B tablets of Minoan Crete were in an archaic Greek. And it will also, be the last great decipherment. Other ancient scripts are undeciphered, or only partly deciphered; but they promise few, short, or less than thrilling texts. The Linear B tablets are clerical records of commodities logged into Minoan store-houses, and the undeciphered and preceding Linear A promises more of the same.…
