A handsome trade catalog of printing and lithographic inks, including samples of half-tone, semi-transparent, opaque, two-shade sepia, book, poster, soft, medium and heavy body inks printed over the same image of a cowboy on bucking bronco. The typography is impressive as each sample is printed on the type of paper most suited to its use, and the tint samples are printed over images of canned products for sale such as pastes, compounds, tablet gums. CONDITION: very good, touch of wear at corners; jacket good, head of spine panel chipped, rubbed and creased at edges. First edition, first printing of Berryman's uncommon second book. Inscribed by Berryman to poet and Princeton professor Charles Bell: "Charles affectionately John" and "Princeton[,] so late as to say Merry Christmas Dec 1948." Bell was a colleague of Berryman's at Princeton and an influential poet/teacher. Among his students were W. S. Merwin and Galway Kinnell. The latter accompanied Bell when he left to teach at Black Mountain College.
