Virtually impossible to find book, based on the "Archives des Missions Scientifiques et Littéraires" - vol.11. Joseph Montano, Doctor of Medicine and Anthropologist, visited Singapore, Malacca, Manila, Luzon, Batangas, Legaspi, Albay, the Calamian Archipelago, Puerto- Princesa (Palawan), Balabac, Zamboanga, Basilan, Sulu, Sandakan, Mindanao, Davao, Surigao, etc. Montano, who was accompanied by the botanist Paul Rey, gave a very careful anthropological and linguistic description of the populations of the regions crossed. The fever shortened the two scientists' journey, preventing them from going to the north of Luzon, as they had planned. A massive catalogue, listing and describing the ethnographical collection as then present in the Dutch National Museum of Anthropology and Ethnology, including 12 excellent plates. Hendrik Herman Juynboll (1867-1945) was a Dutch Indologist and museum director. Under his directorship, a 23-volume, monumental catalog of the museum's Indonesian and Philippine collection was published between 1909 and 1932, probably one of the most extensive descriptive catalogues of a museum's holdings ever. Condition: ex-library with usual markings.
