James Jones, First edition (A-10.57 H). Dust Jacket: Very Good+ An unclipped jacket ($7.50) designed by Greta Franzen. Hardcover: Near Fine. New York: Charles Scribner's Sons, 1957. Bound in red cloth and black boards, stamped in red. Solid copy with 50 cent mark on flyleaf, otherwise, no writing or markings in the book, 1266 pp.
This was Jones second book following international success with his first book, From Here to Eternity (1951). He spent the next 6 years working on this his second novel. Scribner did a first print run of over 12,000 copies. Reviews were mixed and sales were less than striking. No worries, Jones had already sold the movies rights to MGM. The movie starred Frank Sinatra and Dean Martin.

From Here to Eternity, James Jones. First edition, first printing. Dust Jacket: Very Good. An unclipped jacket with original price ($4.50) still intact. In mylar protective wrapper. There is chipping and foxing on borders of jacket otherwise very good.
Hardcover: Very Good+ New York: Charles Scribner's Sons, 1951. Black cloth with gold lettering on spine. No writing or markings in the book, 861 pp., author photo by Pat Moera. This is a first printing, with 'A' on copyright page, first issue jacket with authors photo on rear panel rather than reviews found on later issue jackets.
This is the authors first published work. The novel won the National Book Award in 1952, was later made into an Academy Award-winning film starring Burt Lancaster, Montgomery Clift and Frank Sinatra. Named one of the 100 Best Novels of the 20th century by the Modern Library Board.

One of 3,000 copies printed. Edited from the manuscript in the Harvard College Library by Theodore Spencer.
An attractive copy. An early draft of "Portrait of the Artist As A Young Man," published posthumously. The British edition preceded the American by a few months.
