Description:
Extracted from "The Centenary of Wesleyan Methodism". John Wilson, Printer. Previous owners' name and address on f.e.p. Minor foxing on first few pages and last two pages. The frontispiece of Rev. John Wesley has imprinted itself on the title page, not a problem as far as I'm concerned.

Description:
Exhibition Catalogue. Frontispiece photo of A. J. Casson, 1958. From the Introduction: "When Alfred Joseph Casson died in 1992 Canadian art lost its connection with a man who, as an artist, designer and promoter of Canadian art, saw an unprecedented change in the way we look and think about art in this country. He was constant in his own vision of the Canadian landscape and popular with the public as a painter and, in later life, as a personality. His career spanned more than sixty years, during which period there were the inevitable artistic highs and lows. Recognition of his contribution has been sporadic and uneven. Yet, his achievements were real. Many of his paintings--Anglican Church at Magnetawan; White Pine; Mist, Rain and Sun and his various watercolours of rural Ontario towns--have become icons in Canadian art."NOTE: The ISBN number in the book is 0-7778-7899-2 but for some reason, a combination of 2 ISBN numbers keep showing up when I hit SAVE. ?? Description:
From the d.j. flap: "In Fumbling with a Flyrod, James--who introduced 'looganfest', 'full contact fly fishing', 'trailers' and 'bridgers' into the lexicon of fly fishing--proves conclusively that a hooked salmon does feel like a galloping greyhound; postulates that women might make better fishermen than men; expresses wonder at why kids get the big fish; and cautions that one's love life can get compromised between bed and riverbed. His book will have you laughing out loud, and along the way you'll pick up a few tricks of the trade skillfully tied into the story lines."

Description:
From the d.j.: "In 1860, when four million Afro-Americans were enslaved, a quarter-million others, including William Ellison, were "free people of colour". But Ellison was remarkable. Born a slave, his experience spans the history of the South from George Washington and Thomas Jefferson to Robert E. Lee and Jefferson Davis. In a day when most Americans, black and white, worked the soil, barely scraping together a living, Ellison was a cotton gin maker--a master craftsman. When nearly all free blacks were destitute, Ellison was wealthy and well established. He owned a large plantation and more slaves than all but the richest white planters."

Description:
This book answers some of the questions regarding Louis Armstrong and his long-lasting success in an exhausting and exacting business. It embraces his views on work, creative music-making, politics, marriage, home life racialism, travelling, criticism, modern jazz and rock and other topics. It covers Louis in print, on film, on record and on stage. It also tells of Louis' brushes with mobsters in the early 30's and recounts his version of "the days of the vipers" and his own experiences with drugs."In a career stretching over more than five decades of professional playing--first in his home town, then following roughly the part taken by jazz as it moved to new capitals in Chicago, New York, the West Coast and finally Europe--Louis played a decisive role in bringing American jazz to maturity and spreading it round the globe. By common consent, he was the man who revolutionised the music."
