James Hurd Keeling (1832 - 1909) was born in Malta, the son of the Rev John Keeling, a well-known Wesleyan minister. On the outbreak of the Crimean War in 1854 he went out as Surgeon to the second regiment of the Turkish contingent. In 1860 he became Lecturer on Medical Jurisprudence at the Sheffield Medical School, beginning a teaching career that would last nearly forty years.

72pp. Author's inscription dated 1907 to title page (to Cherrill Kermode), with handwritten poem 'Inasmuch' in the author's hand to reverse of half-title. Covers bright, browning marks to a number of the latter pages. Cushag was the pen-name adopted by the Manx poet and playwright Josephine Kermode 1852 - 1937. The inscription to the head of the title page reads "Cherrill Kermode, With much love from J. K Oct 1907".

True 1st Edition / 1st Printing with '001' to copyright page. Handsigned by the author to a "Signed First Edition / Marian Keyes 2020 / Michael Joseph" tipped in title page. With 'Signed Copy' sticker to front panel of dustwrapper which has a little shelf 'bumping' to the upper edge. No dedication and no other inscriptions.

A scarce survival.An unauthorized pamphlet featuring a poem written by Kipling to publicise for the painting by Philip Burne-Jones (a cousin of Kipling's) entitled "The Vampire," which was first exhibited at the New Gallery in London, 1897.
