The construction of the Aswan Dam in Nubia in the early 1960s resulted in the displacement of several ancient Egyptian temples and the iconic Abu Simbel temple complex. The dam was built to control the flooding of the Nile River and provide hydroelectric power to Egypt, but the rising waters threatened to submerge numerous cultural and historical sites. To save these treasures, an extensive relocation effort was launched, which involved the careful dismantling and reconstruction of temples, including Abu Simbel, to higher ground.
Dust jacket and book are in very good condition. First free endpaper has former owner's address sticker blacked out with ink, see photo. Mild shelfwear. The binding is square and strong, no writing or notes.
