Description:
[n.p.], 1942. 25 pp. No publication info with little, to no, information online. A very bizarre story of a convict, his backstory, and pursuit of "The Little Woman" who would write and visit him while behind bars. The author married for money and when the marriage ends, he travels across country searching for his wealthy wife. The story jumps from place to place around the U.S. with references to Dallas, New York, Chicago, and ends in Reno where he ends up briefly in jail for stealing some of his wife's belongings. He finally agrees to a divorce and if we are reading this piece correctly became somewhat of a remittance man. Knight according to the text knew many wealthy, literary and pop-culture personalities. Very interesting piece. Some soiling and wear to the covers.

Description:
1790. First Edition. This continuation of Samuel Johnson's Rasselas (1759) by Ellis Cornelia Knight is an excellent work with captivating provenance. On the front pastedown lies the pictorial bookplate of none other than acclaimed sculptor Anne Seymour Damer (1748-1828). Damer came from an upper-class Whig family and was often referred to as a "female genius" in her time. She was incredibly talented in the arts and has credited her interest as a sculptor to her mentor, David Hume. The plate itself was designed by Agnes Berry and shows a young woman kneeling before what is perhaps a memorial of Damer herself as it is listed on front of the sculpture. Beneath it, a laurel wreath encircling a sculptor's tools and a shield flanked by dogs featuring a set of wings. Damer would one day choose to be buried with the ashes of her favorite dog and her sculptor's tools. Interestingly, bookplate was designed by painter Agnes Berry and engraved by close friend Francis Legat (1755-1809). First Edition, Original… Read More

Description:
Los Angles: Michael I. Kustoff, 1936. 224 pp. Good in wraps. Wraps show light wear and creases. Kustoff was born in Russia and was an officer in the Russian army during the start of WWI. He fellow out of favor with the military and left Russia, ending up in America. He worked various jobs in southern California while working towards a law degree. Kustoff worked in support of workers' rights, and he argued that his frequent arrests and stints in insane asylums were because of his political beliefs. He accused officials of poisoning him with poisonous gas and mistreating him in other ways. As the years went by, Kustoff moved around the country doing various work living in Washington, Florida, and eventually Texas, where he finally did become a lawyer. He also wished to become licensed to practice law in California but was denied because of his sketchy career in the state. Justice in Iron Mask is his argument for wanting the California Supreme court to hear his case. The court declined to take action.… Read More
