Kansas City: Woodcut Society, 1939. 1st Edition 1st Printing. Portfolio Folder. Near Fine. Claire Leighton . Signed by Illustrator(s). Signed, numbered, and titled in pencil; a wood engraving on what appears to be Japanese mulberry paper. Folder: 12 3/4 x 16 inches; Accompanying text is by the artist. Image is 6 x 7 5/8 inches. Print is a fine impression in very good condition, has slightest bit of mat toning and remnants of original glue where it had been attached to the folder. Slight split in folder has been reinforced with Japanese archival tape. This print is in numerous major US museums as well as a number of international collections. Caroline Mesrobian Hickman, Mint Museum of Art (from an exhibition catalogue on Leighton's graphic work) wrote " Winnowers, Majorca, in which Spanish workers harvest beans with three-pronged forks, shows Leighton at the height of her artistry as a designer and engraver.
