Contemporary limp vellum.When Montaigne was writing the Essays in the 1585, the lawyer Jean Dagoneau published a series of dialogues under the pseudonym of Nicholas de Cholieres, anti-woman tract written in the form of a dialogue. The work is preceded by two sonnets, one dedicated to women and the other to men, in which the author encourages women to read to the end of the work 'puis vous serez contentes'. There is a bit of proto-feminism in the character of Ginecophile, the champion of women. VERY RARE.. Not in Princeton, Folger, Yale, Huntington. No (complete) copy in the trade.
